POSITION TITLE: Gymnastics Instructor         
BRANCH: Sherwood   
PAY GRADE: P- 8               
PAY RATE: $8.50 - $12.00
SUPERVISOR: Youth Director            
HOURS: Wednesday 4 pm-6 pm
CLOSING DATE: August 23rd, 2010

General Function:
Under the direction of the Y&F Program Director the Gymnastics instructor will teach Beginning Gymnastics and Advanced Gymnastics as children move through the program. The Gymnastics instructor will have prepared lesson plans for all classes, provide appropriate communication to parents, and arrive for class 15 minutes ahead of class time. Gymnastics class should provide kids with the opportunity to develop new friendships, improve self-esteem, self-confidence and develop body awareness and movement skills.

Entry Requirements:
High School or GED equivalent plus three years prior experience with this or similar job is recommended. Must have experience working with children and their parents.

Essential Functions Of Job:

• Incorporate and Model our YMCA Christian principles into your work
• Commit to establishing long-term relationships with staff, volunteers, participants, members and families.
• Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relationships with both members and staff and give directions in an authoritative, yet tactful manner.
• Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency situation.
• Ability to adequately observe participant activities, enforces safety regulations, and applies appropriate management techniques.
• Ability to attain and maintain CPR and First Aid certification
• The physical ability to pick up a child of 40lbs, to participate in-group activities, and to monitor behavior requiring physical separation.

Job Segments:
1. Assist with staff training and orientation.
2. Direct, Conduct and Evaluate classes assigned.
3. Assist Program Director & Coordinator with administrative duties.
4. Establish good rapport with parents and children.
5. Teach Gymnastics classes; classes start/finish on time.
6. Keep accurate rosters and attendance records.
7. Document any substitutions, lost or broken equipment, injuries, and lesson plans assessments.
8. Prepare weekly lesson plan.
9. Attend all staff meetings.
10. Attire includes appropriate gym wear, staff shirt and nametag.
11. Provide safe and clean environment for children.
12. Perform all other duties as assigned.
