Open Swim / Family Swim
Open swim is open for all ages of kids, adults and families. Family swim is reserved for family swim time, so parents will need to be in the pool with their children regardless of age.
Water Aerobics Fitness Classes
By adding a component of exercise while enjoying the pool, you couldn’t ask for more. The advantage of exercising in water is that it offers resistance in all directions as opposed to land exercises where you work only against gravity. The buoyancy offered by the water causes less strain on joints and muscles. Water aerobic benefits persons of all ages and it is not essential to be a swimmer to participate in water aerobic exercise. It allows anyone to burn calories and safely build on their strength and flexibility.
Prenatal Swim Classes
Exercising in water is ideal for pregnant women for four important reasons.
- Water’s buoyancy requires you to support only 50 percent of your body weight
- Reduces risk of stress-related injuries
- Compression of the water is soothing on joints and muscles that are stressed by the additional bulk
- The water’s temperature also keeps you from overheating during your workout
Youth Swim Team
Unique to the Sherwood Regional Family YMCA, the Y offers the Yawama Dragon Swim Team to the community's youth.
